Ah Eurovision Song Contest, you were here again. Every year the thought of this camp spectacle fills the people of Europe with extreme euphoria, extreme dread or extreme nonchalance. There are those who love it beyond belief; those who at the mere mention of the word Eurovision are hit with bursts of extreme anger, mumbling something about political voting and then there are those who will happily sit through the spectacle on a Saturday night, murmuring opinions at the TV or their Twitter feed without much more feeling than they’d give an episode of Britain’s Got Talent. I personally fit…

Bangor University was this week revealed to have placed 18th in the Times Higher Education’s Student Experience Survey. The yearly survey rates Universities across Britain on a variety of student experiences ranging from staff and lecture quality to sport facilities. “The great experience the students have, along with the care they receive at Bangor have been key attractions to the University for generations, and it’s clear that our current students appreciate the whole, rounded experience of studying here,” said Professor John G. Hughes, the University’s Vice- Chancellor. While the areas measured where extremely divers at times Bangor University respondents rated…

With the arrival of spring, people begin to prepare themselves for the inevitable change in the air, specifically the change that brings about hay fever. Hay fever is a common illness and affects millions of people in Britain every year, but this does little to comfort those who suffer every year. Hay fever is an allergic reaction to substances in the air, mainly pollen which becomes more prominent once spring begins. The amount of pollen in the air will usually trigger the reaction and this is why some people may only experience hay fever for the first time when they…

Best Kate Hudson Kate Hudson defined Hollywood Glamour at this year’s Oscars. The blonde beauty is a native Californian and this usually translates to a much more relaxed look on red carpets, but at this event Kate was sleek and elegant. Despite this her look was quite simple, beginning with a flawless foundation base; she chose to follow the age of rule of ‘eyes or mouth’. She wore a nude lipstick on her lips that allowed the focus to be grabbed by her stunning eye makeup. She created a smoky eye look using the classic white, grey, black colour pallet…

Suffering from the night before but still need to look decent for a presentation, visit to the relatives or work? Fear not, Seren’s here with a few easy tricks at making you look better than you feel. Apply cold tea bags on your eyes for 15 minutes. The caffeine breaks down fat cells around the eyes to reduce puffiness while the cold temperature closes blood veins to reduce the redness surrounding the area. Don’t skip the concealer. A yellow concealer will counteract dark circles on the skin, while they naturally blend into your natural skin tone easier than pink shaded…

Recent tests conducted by a team of experts at the University of Bonn in Germany have discovered that drinking energy drinks that contain high caffeine levels can change the way your heart beats. The study focused on energy drinks that contained 32mg per 100ml of caffeine and 400mg per 100ml of another chemical, taurine. Most energy drinks in British supermarkets contain these chemicals at similar amounts. The tests show that an hour after drinking the test all of the participants hearts were beating much harder than before they drank the products. While recommendations are already in place against using energy drinks…

L’Oreal Kids It was THE product of the 90s. It guaranteed ‘no tears’ and yet your eyes stung worse than most shampoos when you got into them! School swimming lessons were never the same when this product came around, and our parents suffered our endless whinging to get ‘the pink one because it smells much better than my stupid blue one.’ If you feel nostalgic this product is still available to buy in Home Bargains. Scrunchies Hair scrunchies, the lazy student’s dream. All you had to do was pull your hair up as high as you could…

It’s happened to nearly everyone: you make an extra special effort to make your costume as authentic as possible, only to wake up in the morning with your bed covered in body paint. On top of this you only have a short time to make yourself look half way respectful before your lecture starts. Here are some tips on how to rid your body of the paint. Heavy make-up such as face paint is oil based therefore it resists the traditional washing up mechanisms of soap and water. Oil is even immune to most make-up removers as they are soap…

Kelly Kapowski Kelly was the quintessential 90s girl next door.  Whether she was unintentionally making Zack and Slater fight for her, leading the Bayside cheerleaders, or just standing around in those corridors that they hung out in a lot, Kelly always looked stunning. One of the key aspects of Kelly’s looks was her hair. To get the full volume look of the 90s… 1. Begin by putting a volume mousse all the way through damp hair. I recommend Garnier Fructis Style Big Volume Mousse (£2.64 – Superdrug), then blow dry your hair completely. 2. After the hair is completely dry…

Exam time is always a stressful period for any student, regardless if you’re in your first year or your final one. It takes a very lucky person to be able to handle such an experience without some sort of struggle to deal with the pressure they feel under. It’s a strange thing to feel positive about, but we can all at least try and take comfort in the fact we’re all in the same boat. So how do we even begin to cope with such a pressure I hear you ask? Well it’s a fair one to ask. Begin by…

As a new year begins, the effects of the Christmas party season can lead to some unfortunate issue for the skin on your face.  A constant exposure to the cold Bangor nights, teamed with the toxins found in alcohol and (often less than healthy) hangover foods can leave your skin looking tired and worse for wear. So try and start 2014 right by making these simple resolutions to thank your skin for all it’s put up with.   1.  I Will Identify My Skin Type – The easiest way to do this is with a simple test using a strip…

Is Scottish, Irish, and Welsh devolution a positive thing? Sara Lloyd Williams and Victoria Allen discuss. Sara Lloyd Williams, 22, is a third-year student studying History.  She is arguing for devolution. The question of devolution over independence is a hard one to grasp with facts and figures. In September 2015 the people of Scotland will go to the polls to vote for or against independence for their country. Currently in Scotland opinion polls show an apparent majority against independence in the country (the last yougov poll showed 52% against, 32% for). But can an issue that runs so deep and…

Trying to summarise Sky’s new original comedy Yonderland to anyone who hasn’t seen it has proven to be very difficult. The closest I can manage is this: imagine a TV show featuring the Muppets and their sense of humour, then imagine the plot of that show is taking the micky out of Lord of the Rings. Strange, I know, but somehow this show works! A comedy show created by the people who bought children (and adults) Horrible Histories, the show pokes fun at numerous elements of the epic fantasy dramas that have come to our attention recently (Game…
