Recent tests conducted by a team of experts at the University of Bonn in Germany have discovered that drinking energy drinks that contain high caffeine levels can change the way your heart beats. The study focused on energy drinks that contained 32mg per 100ml of caffeine and 400mg per 100ml of another chemical, taurine. Most energy drinks in British supermarkets contain these chemicals at similar amounts. The tests show that an hour after drinking the test all of the participants hearts were beating much harder than before they drank the products. While recommendations are already in place against using energy drinks…

L’Oreal Kids It was THE product of the 90s. It guaranteed ‘no tears’ and yet your eyes stung worse than most shampoos when you got into them! School swimming lessons were never the same when this product came around, and our parents suffered our endless whinging to get ‘the pink one because it smells much better than my stupid blue one.’ If you feel nostalgic this product is still available to buy in Home Bargains. It’s happened to nearly everyone: you make an extra special effort to make your costume as authentic as possible, only to wake up in the morning with your bed covered in body paint. On top of this you only have a short time to make yourself look half way respectful before your lecture starts. Here are some tips on how to rid your body of the paint. Heavy make-up such as face paint is oil based therefore it resists the traditional washing up mechanisms of soap and water. Oil is even immune to most make-up removers as they are soap…

Kelly Kapowski Kelly was the quintessential 90s girl next door.  Whether she was unintentionally making Zack and Slater fight for her, leading the Bayside cheerleaders, or just standing around in those corridors that they hung out in a lot, Kelly always looked stunning. One of the key aspects of Kelly’s looks was her hair. To get the full volume look of the 90s… 1. Begin by putting a volume mousse all the way through damp hair. I recommend Garnier Fructis Style Big Volume Mousse (£2.64 – Superdrug), then blow dry your hair completely. 2. After the hair is completely dry…

Exam time is always a stressful period for any student, regardless if you’re in your first year or your final one. It takes a very lucky person to be able to handle such an experience without some sort of struggle to deal with the pressure they feel under. It’s a strange thing to feel positive about, but we can all at least try and take comfort in the fact we’re all in the same boat. So how do we even begin to cope with such a pressure I hear you ask? Well it’s a fair one to ask. Begin by…

As a new year begins, the effects of the Christmas party season can lead to some unfortunate issue for the skin on your face.  A constant exposure to the cold Bangor nights, teamed with the toxins found in alcohol and (often less than healthy) hangover foods can leave your skin looking tired and worse for wear. So try and start 2014 right by making these simple resolutions to thank your skin for all it’s put up with.   1.  I Will Identify My Skin Type – The easiest way to do this is with a simple test using a strip…

The sprouting of fashionable top lip accessories marks the start of what has in recent years become an international sensation. Movember will soon be upon us, as men around the world unplug their clippers and seal away their razors to let loose their inner macho. But what is Movember, and why has it become such a sensation? Movember began way back in 2003 in Melbourne, Australia, the burgeoning idea of four men who, on one fateful night in the pub, decided to change the world one moustache at a time. The idea was simple, and hasn’t changed: start clean shaven…

As the nights become longer an unfortunate side-effect is seen within human beings. The majority of us begin to notice our moods becoming lower, our energy levels dropping, just at a time when the pressures of University workload begin to pile on. Why is this happening? Well, the chances are you’re suffering from SAD. “Suffering from SAD?” I hear you say, “That sentence can’t be right?!”. But SAD is actually short for Seasonal Affective Disorder, a type of depression that’s linked to the changing of the seasons. While it can develop at any time of the year when the levels…

As the winter months draw in and the air around us grows colder, our skin can be seriously harmed by the elements we’re exposed to. While there are many ways to combat these issues, one of the best products you can use is Shea butter. Shea butter is made from the fat of the nuts found on Shea trees in Africa and for years its moisturizing properties has been used in skin care products throughout the world. One of its major benefits for us students is its affordability. Here are five Shea heavy products for the price of a pint…

The weeks leading up to work deadlines and exams are always particularly stressful. Stress might seem part and parcel of student life, but if you don’t find ways to deal with it then stress can cause a whole host of other problems such as weight loss, skin problems, and lack of sleep.
