Benllech is home to the pearl of North Wales: The Beachcomber Bar and Grill. This hidden gem is rated 4 and a half stars on TripAdvisor, and my god it really is worth it! Located on Bangor Road, Tyn-Y-Gongl, LL74 8TF, the Beachcomber combines Spanish style tapas alongside local produce. Its grill section is mouth-watering and the pizza to die for! Portions are fit for a family of four per dish so you won’t be leaving hungry. I opted on the garlic bread and olives for starters and I was not disappointed. A mixture of green and black olives bathed…

No new students will be enrolled on Chemistry programmes for the 2019/20 academic year As one of the founding subjects at Bangor University, Chemistry has been taught for over 135 years and currently stands at 33rd in UK rankings. Today, the peace talks cease as Bangor University prepares their 3-year evaporation of the Chemistry Department. In retaliation to the proposed plan, the Facebook page ‘Bangor needs Chemistry’ erupted and have fought over the consultation period to rectify this movement from the Ex- Vice Chancellor John G Hughes. The direct effect of this is the loss of 15 academic and 3…
While this may seem like a terrible sponsorship deal, I can advise you this is only an article written by a slightly hungover, but satiated girl. But if Wetherspoons are reading this, Seren always loves a good sponsorship. After Friday 1st March, the infamous Seren Super 80’s Party, I woke up from death by alcohol and was revived from the latest addition to the breakfast menu at a student’s most trusted establishment in Bangor. The Black Bull Inn down on Bangor’s High Street is now home to my heart and soul in the form of the American Breakfast for £4.99.…

Bangor’s first ever food festival, which took place on Sunday 30th September, shed light onto the culinary artists close to home. With over 15 different food stands, a cocktail garden, and live performances on stage, we were quite frankly blown away. This excellent bonanza was put together and raised all the spirits of the otherwise boring, hungover Sundays. Open to all members of the community, it welcomed students and locals to come together and socialise in a means that isn’t a noise complaint. As soon as we approached Bangor High Street, our nostrils were overwhelmed with the amount of flavours…
Natasha Ednan-Laperouse and Celia Marsh are the first two named victims from Pret a Manger. Both these women suffered fatal allergic reactions due to the severe lack of labelling of their food products. These losses have caused uproar with many of the public coming forward with their own stories where they have suffered as well. Natasha Ednan-Laperouse age 15 died due to inadequate allergy warnings of sesame seeds in the baguettes at Pret a Manger. She collapsed on a British Airways flight from London to Nice on 17 July 2016 after eating an artichoke, olive and tapenade baguette. Under EU…
BSE, also known as Mad Cow Disease, has returned with one case appearing in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. BSE (Mad cow disease) itself can be transmitted to humans through contaminated meat consumption, thus causing a fatal infection to the brain called variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD). Scotland was declared BSE-free in May last year, officially earning the status of “negligible risk”, but after this isolated case its beef exports will be placed on the lower “controlled risk” status used for exports from the rest of the UK. This farm has so far confirmed one case of BSE and has placed precautionary restrictions to…

The latest addition to the local background giving us the feel of the Caribbean and a floral garland to rock for your 9am: The Cove. The coffee and rum shake gives us the best of both worlds, allowing students to drown their sorrows in alcohol late night, and then give them a kick up the arse coffee the following morning. Their world famous (at least in my world) fish bowls consist of: Vimto, Caribbean, and Blue Lagoon. At £10 a pop, these beauties taste like fruit juice and are easy to get down, then once in Academi you won’t need…
Your midnight hunger buster solved by a personal sized pepperoni? But maybe your eyes were bigger than your belly and now you’ve woken up spooning the box the next morning. If your pizza has been sitting out for more than two hours, it is not safe to eat. No seriously! Don’t you do it! But unfortunately, yes, according to the U.S Department of Agriculture, all perishable foods, including pizza, are not safe to eat after sitting at room temperature overnight. Honestly, I’m wiping away the tears from my eyes as I type this. This rule holds true whether your…
Here’s some top tips to continue the party but avoid the hangover, CRAZY. Make sure it’s clear – So if you’re going to have alcohol, it’s best to make sure it’s clear. A few examples include: Vodka, Gin, Sake. Yes as much as I hate to say it drinking spirits will give you the best chance of a minimal hangover, vodka especially. A study by the British Medical Association found it to be the best of an obviously bad bunch, because it contains few congeners. Congeners are impurities in alcohol that come about as a result of fermentation and…
Kung Pow holding a bigger punch than you expected? About a million people every year in the UK get food poisoning – half from their own cooking (with summer barbecues and Christmas leftovers being the biggest culprits). Around 100 people each year (mainly the very young and the very old) get it so badly they die from it. Food poisoning – your first thoughts being bacteria contaminating your food. However, this is not the biggest perpetrator, in fact it’s called Campylobacter. According to the FSA (Food standards agency), Campylobacter is present in more than 65% of chickens on sale in…
