This year, every issue will contain exciting ways in which you can give your often neglected food waste a new lease of life.
Ends of bread by Freya
Don’t throw away the ends of your bread. Crumble them up or blitz them into breadcrumbs.
Drying herbs by Theo
Do you have a packet of herbs in the fridge that is going out of date? Try drying them in a microwave. Put some kitchen roll on a small plate and place the herbs on top. Place another sheet of kitchen roll on top of them and place in the microwave—on high—for 20 seconds. After 20 seconds, remove the herbs and let the steam escape. Repeat this process until the herbs have dried. Voila! Now they will last a lot longer and you can free up some fridge space.
Eggs by Charlotte
Don’t throw away your eggs before using this simple trick. Eggs can still be eaten after their best before date and there is one easy method that can help you tell if an egg is safe to eat. Fill a jug with water and drop the egg in. If it sinks, the air has not penetrated the shell and it should still be safe. If it floats, the air has penetrated the shell and it should be thrown away. Simple.
