It feels like I’m forever writing about one Assassin’s Creed or the other but I feel it can’t really be helped. The new installment of Ubisoft’s popular series was officially confirmed by the company back in February of this year and was soon followed by the debut trailer hitting the internet on 5th March. All one and a half minutes of footage comprise of a cinematic only, much like previous debut trailers from the series, but it is unclear whether the clip will feature within the game. With Assassin’s Creed 3 we will skip just under two hundred years, finding…

For years now Sony’s Playstation franchise has been seen as market leaders in the fast-growing gaming industry. Since the release of the Playstation One in the mid-nineties, the company has repeatedly released newer consoles and even delved into the handheld console market once before with the PSP. Now though, with the increase in mobile gaming, Sony are back in the handheld market with the PS Vita; the PSP’s long awaited successor. Already out over in Sony homeland Japan and due for release in Europe on February 22nd, the PS Vita boasts a number of swanky new features. With a 5…

I think it’s fair to say that ever since the rise of the gaming industry, bordering on three decades ago now, there has been Star Wars games. It all started in 1983 with Star Wars: Jedi Arena for the Atari 2600 console. The game was simple, two Jedi’s would face off with a seeker ball between them (just like the one Luke trains with in Episode IV). To win the game you had to deflect the laser bolts from the seeker ball towards your opponent. Star Wars games have come a long way since then. Deflecting laser bolts is the…

It’s no secret amongst the Seren team that I love Madonna. I wish I could tell you why but I can’t; I just love her. So when Joey, our Music Editor, asked me to write a little about her I couldn’t possibly say no. This year Madonna is back! Her upcoming album, aptly named MDNA, is currently number one on the iTunes pre-order chart which, for someone her age, is pretty impressive. Madonna recently released the first single from her album. ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’ (don’t even get me started on the spelling) is a tackfest from the off;…

These days its difficult to remember that there actually is an awards season. What with the multitude of different weekly TV magazines we have, that all seem to have their own pointless ceremony. All of this, though, is beside the point because with the impending 84th Academy Awards we can safely say it really is awards season. The Academy Awards, or as they are more commonly known ‘the Oscars’, are generally seen as the most prestigious awards in Hollywood. Winning an Oscar is what most actors, actresses, directors and filmmakers in general dream of. Winning an Oscar, for lack of…

Following an unexpected year out, a year that the band refers to as Matthew’s ‘trip to Disneyland’, Madina Lake are back on the road promoting their third studio album. ‘World War III’ has been a long time coming after bassist Matthew Leone was critically injured trying to stop a woman being beaten by her husband on the streets of Chicago.  Matthew took some time out of his busy schedule and sat down to speak to LJ Taylor at their recent Sheffield gig.  So what made you guys want to get into the music industry? Music is just sort of…

I was lucky enough to come across Within Temptation, a symphonic metal band from Holland, about five years ago. It was when I was going through my ‘goth’ stage, one I thankfully left behind (well, mostly) and my friend introduced me to them. This was the same friend that had introduced me to Nightwish, arguably Within Temptation’s Finnish counterparts, a year or so earlier. At first I admit, I was only into a few songs; namely ‘Stand My Ground’ and ‘Angels’ – the ones that Kerrang TV played most often. The first time she went to see them live I declined…

I’ve been a Newcastle United fan ever since I was old enough to realise that my Dad’s club preference (Sheffield Wednesday) wasn’t the only choice. For my ninth birthday my parents took me to St James’ Park for a stadium tour, my Grandparent’s had even tried to get me to be one of the mascots but unfortunately there wasn’t a home game that day. I remember my Mum sitting in Alan Shearer’s spot in the dressing rooms; I vowed never to forgive her. I did. Somewhat. That was the first and last time I visited St James’ Park. On November…

After roughly ten brutal hours in which I had climbed up a Himalayan mountain from the dangling ruins of a train (twice!), infiltrated a Turkish prison, singlehandedly destroyed a tank and found the mythical city of Shambhala to then destroy it, I was emotionally and physically (well, my character was) drained. UNCHARTED 2 was finished and I was only 4 hours into the release day; I had managed to get my copy a day early. I was ready for UNCHARTED 3. Since the beginning, Nathan Drake’s adventures have taken us across the globe. From the lost city of El Dorado,…
