This year’s Varsity was host to a tight, hard-fought match between Bangor and Aber’s women’s lacrosse teams. The match ended as a draw at 6-6 but both teams wanted a winner and so extra time began. With eight extra minutes being allowed in an attempt to gain the eventual result of a 7th goal, it was Aber who were the ones to strike lucky and finish the game at 7-6. After a forty minute chase up the leaderboard by Aberystwyth, Bangor emerged victorious with a 49-46 result. As described by Bangor’s Captain Matthew Bigley, the Badgers’ team performance was “nothing short of heroic”, with each of the players “diving for every loose ball.” The tension was high throughout the game, with the constant fast pace contributing to a neck-to-neck contest. The atmosphere and support from the crowd for both Aberystwyth and Bangor was powerful, with everyone engaging with the game and spurring on the players to win. The winner of the Man Booker Prize in 2012 has been announced, and Hilary Mantel has done it again. Awarded the prize for her novel Wolf Hall in 2009, Mantel has now achieved the top spot for her novel Bring Up the Bodies. The book is a sequel to the previous Man Booker Prize winning novel, and follows the life and times of Thomas Cromwell, living in the court of Henry VIII.
